Graduate Rotation Programme

Graduate rotation programme
Talented and motivated CGDB master students are invited to participate in a 8-week rotation programme aimed at finding an optimal match between PhD student and PhD project. During the rotations, students visit 1-2 research groups of their choice. Students will have discussions with PhD supervisors, graduate students and postdocs, do some practical work and gain insight into possible PhD projects. They will also get acquainted with the CGDB PhD programme, the atmosphere within the different institutions and are provided the opportunity to explore the various research groups, topics and techniques in the school.

The following conditions apply to the programme:
•    only open for CGDB Master students who have finished their first year
•    applicants are interested in doing a PhD project in the CGDB PhD program
•    students may use their 8-week elective for the rotation programme
•    during the rotation they can visit 1-2 CGDB groups
•    applicants must have finished their major research project with a score of 8 or higher
•    rotations can start at any time during the second or third year, after consultation and in agreement with the group leader(s) to be visited.

Details on how to apply for the programme will be posted soon.

NWO grants
The CGDB has obtained funding from NWO for 2 PhD positions linked to the graduate rotation programme. The aim of the grants is to provide the best CGDB master students with the opportunity to select the CGDB group where they wish to perform a PhD project.
The selection of candidates is as follows:
•    only students enrolled in the CGDB Master program can apply
•    in September, CGDB group leaders are asked to nominate students for these 2 grants
•    nominees must have finished the first year of the CGDB Master program
•    nominated students will be asked if they are interested in applying for such a grant
•    a selection committee will select a small number of applicants who then will rotate for 8 weeks in 1-2 labs of the CGDB program and prepare a research proposal
•     the selection committee will determine which candidates will receive the NWO grants
•    it is anticipated that for those candidates that do not receive a NWO grant there will be positions available in the various CGDB groups.
