General research focus: Metabolomics and dietary restriction mediated healthy ageing

Dietary Restriction (DR), the reduction of food intake without malnutrition, is the only robust metabolic intervention that increases lifespan in all organisms tested. Strikingly, it also delays the onset of numerous age-related diseases such as diabetes mellitus, neurodegeneration and cancer.
The response to DR is highly regulated and evolutionary conserved but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely elusive.
Our laboratory is interested in understanding the metabolic regulation of the DR response and its effects on healthy ageing by following an integrated approach of state-of-the-art Mass Spectrometry technologies (Orbitrap MS, GC-TOF, Triple-Quad and Q-TOF) combined with Molecular Biology techniques including Q-PCR, siRNA, Microarray Expression Profiling, Multiplex ELISA and intracellular protein replacement.
